We as trainers and coaches tend to underestimate how the brain thinks and overestimate the power of the printed word.  Our company (Sullivision, Inc.) has worked with dozens of successful hospitality clients worldwide to adapt their text-heavy training materials to the graphic-rich and interactive preferred learning styles of Generation Y (our 16 to 24 year olds.) So, aside from what’s legally critical to impart in writing, how important is it that you explain everything in excruciating detail in your manuals? I know a way to illustrate the power of the brain AND cut in half the cost and number of all of your current printed training materials. Read the paragraph below:

Women starting businesses in record numbers.
Saw an interesting article in the April 12, 2004, edition of USA Today that should give foodservice marketing departments something to think about relative to who and how they’re telling their story…

"Women are starting their own businesses at twice the rate of men. The number of self-employed women has increased 77% since 1983. They’re leaving big companies in droves. Since 1987 the number of women-owned companies has doubled, their employment has increased four times and their revenue has quintupled. Today women owned companies represent nearly half of all privately-held companies, and women-owned businesses employ 52% of the private-sector workforce."

Fast Fact: Last year in the U.S., university students -- roughly 18 to 22 year olds (the leading edge of the Millennials) -- spent 5 billion dollars on alcohol. They are considered to be a $300 billion market.
